Searching for a top Edmonton family law lawyer?  Take a look at Jennifer Galarneau, an attorney who achieves favourable results for clients by tapping into the invaluable experience she obtained by working in all aspects of family law including divorce, separation agreements, child custody, child support and mediation.

As a joint founder of The Family Law Firm along with her husband, Divorce lawyer Norman Galarneau, Jennifer is redefining how couples who are separating go through the separation process.  Born in Edmonton and raised in Alberta, Jennifer attended school in Northern Alberta.  She then went on to obtain both of her degrees, a bachelor of science and Juris Doctor at the University of Calgary.  She has taken further professional training in mediation.  She is now available to serve as both a mediator and a litigator to her clients.

Learn more by reading her comments on the qualities that set The Family Law Firm apart from other law firms in not just Edmonton, but also other Alberta communities, such as Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray, St. Paul, Red Deer, Drayton Valley, Slave Lake, Peace River, Barrhead, Westlock, Edson, Hinton and Wetaskiwin.

Why do you represent so many clients who live outside of Edmonton?

I would say about half of our clients come from out of town.  Most often they come to us because they are not convinced they can get the legal representation they need from a local lawyer.  The stakes are too high and they can't afford to rely on a junior lawyer.

What can a client expect when they retain you?

Exceptional representation from a court tested lawyer with very competitive fees.  Simply put, we are great value for the money.  We give people options and we will even point out when a legal strategy is going to cost a lot of money, but has little chance of achieving a good outcome.

What does being family friendly mean?

It means that our offices are not going to look like the typical law firm office.  They are more like a living room, where you can be relaxed and comfortable.  Children are welcome and if they make a little mess while they are playing, that is ok.

Is there any difference between male and female clients?

Every client is different.  Some women act in a way that might be associated with men and vice versa.  Women who are mothers are often a little different because they are not just worried about themselves, they are worried about their families.

Are you seeing any new trends?

I am seeing a lot of domestic violence cases and there seems to be more charges against women.

You have questions about Alberta law. We have answers.

Q: What is Collaborative Law?
Collaborative law is an out-of-court proceeding that treats divorce or separation as a process of trial and error and problem solving, not a process where one side wins and the other loses. Both parties retain separate attorneys who help them settle disputes. If any of the parties decide to go to court, the collaborative law process is terminated and both attorneys can no longer be involved in the case.
